Cautious Outlook on Near-Term Deliveries
Deutsche Bank analyst Edison Yu lowered his price target on Tesla Inc. to $420, while keeping a Buy rating, according to a note to clients Wednesday. The revised target, down from $465, signals a more cautious stance on the electric-vehicle maker's near-term delivery trajectory and margin trajectory. Yu cited factors including slowing demand in some markets and increased competition weighing on volumes. The stock fell about 1.5% in early trading following the report.
The move comes as Tesla prepares to report its next quarterly delivery numbers, with expectations for modest growth compared to the prior year. “We see near-term headwinds from macroeconomic uncertainty and pricing pressure,” Yu wrote. He added that Tesla's gross margins may remain under pressure as it continues to cut prices to stimulate demand.
Long-Term Optimism on AI Remains
Despite the reduced near-term outlook, Yu reiterated his positive long-term thesis on Tesla, emphasizing its leadership in artificial intelligence and autonomous driving. He pointed to progress on the robotaxi program and the Optimus humanoid robot as key value drivers beyond the core auto business. “Tesla remains well-positioned to capitalize on the AI revolution, which we believe will unlock significant shareholder value over time,” Yu said.
The analyst's dual view mirrors a broader market sentiment: short-term caution on EV demand and margins, but long-term enthusiasm around Tesla's technology and innovation roadmap. Other Wall Street analysts have similarly adjusted targets in recent weeks, with some lowering estimates amid delivery concerns while keeping optimistic ratings.
