- 3SBio Inc. is a leading Chinese biopharmaceutical company specializing in the research, development, manufacturing, marketing, and sale of biopharmaceutical products primarily within the People's Republic of China. The company’s core product portfolio includes recombinant human thrombopoietin (TPIAO) for treating chemotherapy-induced thrombocytopenia and immune thrombocytopenia; recombinant human erythropoietins EPIAO and SEPO for anemia treatment; YISAIPU, a tumor necrosis factor antagonist for rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and psoriasis; CIPTERBIN for HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer; alongside small molecule drugs such as MANDI for male alopecia. Additional products include XENOPAX for preventing acute rejection after renal transplantation, BYETTA for glycemic control in type 2 diabetes, and SPARIN, a low-molecular-weight heparin calcium injection for thrombotic prophylaxis and hemodialysis anticoagulation. The company also offers Interferon (INTEFEN), human interleukin-2 (INLEUSIN), and other biologics targeting lymphatic and hematopoietic malignancies, viral infections, and cancers.
Founded in 1999 and headquartered in Shenyang, China, 3SBio operates several production sites both domestically and internationally, including one in Italy, and maintains an extensive pipeline with over 30 products approved by PICs and ICH countries. The company serves the pharmaceutical and healthcare markets, targeting patients with cancer, autoimmune diseases, anemia, diabetes, and transplant-related conditions.
Recently, 3SBio has made significant strategic advances through a high-profile partnership and licensing deal with U.S. pharmaceutical giant Pfizer. In July 2025, 3SBio granted Pfizer exclusive global (outside China) licensing rights to develop, manufacture, and commercialize SSGJ-707, a bispecific antibody targeting PD-1 and VEGF, designed for the treatment of various cancers including non-small cell lung cancer, metastatic colorectal cancer, and gynecological tumors. This agreement entailed a $1.25 billion upfront payment to 3SBio, milestone payments potentially reaching $4.8 billion, plus tiered royalties, and included Pfizer’s $100 million equity investment in 3SBio. The deal further allows Pfizer to opt for exclusive rights in China for an additional payment of $150 million.
To fund ongoing clinical research and expand its global product reach, 3SBio announced in December 2025 a strategic share placement aiming to raise approximately HK$3.12 billion (around $400 million). The capital will primarily support research and development initiatives in China and the U.S., advancing early-stage drug candidates and fostering international market expansion for its oncology and other therapeutic products. This initiative reflects the company's commitment to innovating and broadening its commercial footprint amid growing investor interest.
3SBio operates primarily within the biopharmaceutical industry segment, delivering advanced biologics and innovative therapies to address unmet medical needs. Its comprehensive offerings encompass recombinant biologics, small molecule drugs, and immunotherapies, marketed mainly in China with ongoing efforts to internationalize its product portfolio through partnerships and licensing arrangements. The company remains a pioneer in China's biotechnology sector, maintaining leadership in its key therapeutic areas with a robust product pipeline and global ambitions.
