Business
BioNTech SE operates as a biotechnology entity, concentrating on the advancement and commercialization of pioneering immunotherapies designed to combat cancer and various infectious ailments. The company is actively progressing its FixVac platform product candidates, including BNT111, an mRNA-based therapy undergoing Phase 2 clinical assessment for advanced melanoma; BNT112, in Phase 1/2a clinical investigation for prostate cancer; and BNT113, which is in Phase 2/3 clinical evaluation for human papillomavirus 16 positive head and neck cancers. Further, BNT116, an mRNA vaccine targeting non-small cell lung cancer, has initiated global clinical trials. Its diverse oncology portfolio extends to neoantigen specific immunotherapies, such as Autogene cevumeran (BNT122), currently in Phase 2 clinical trials for melanoma. Additionally, BioNTech develops intratumoral mRNA immunotherapies, including BNT141 and BNT142, in Phase 1 studies for multiple solid tumors, and RiboCytokines like BNT151, BNT152, and BNT153 for various solid tumor indications. The company is also advancing chimeric antigen receptor T cell immunotherapies, notably BNT211, targeting CLDN6-positive solid tumors in Phase 1/2 trials, and checkpoint immunomodulators such as GEN1046 and GEN1042, which are in Phase 1/2 clinical assessment for solid tumors. A significant bispecific antibody candidate, BNT327/PM8002, is progressing into global Phase 2/3 clinical trials for conditions like non-small cell lung cancer, triple-negative breast cancer, and pancreatic cancer. Beyond oncology, BioNTech is renowned for its contributions to infectious disease prevention, co-developing the widely recognized COVID-19 vaccine, Comirnaty, with Pfizer Inc. Its infectious disease pipeline encompasses mRNA-based vaccine candidates for influenza, shingles, malaria, tuberculosis, HIV, and mpox. The company also explores therapies for rare diseases. BioNTech leverages advanced technological platforms, including its proprietary mRNA technology, and has integrated artificial intelligence and machine learning into its drug discovery processes through collaborations like the AI Innovation Lab with InstaDeep. BioNTech maintains extensive strategic alliances with various global pharmaceutical partners, including Genentech, Sanofi S.A., Genmab A/S, Pfizer Inc., Shanghai Fosun Pharmaceutical (Group) Co., Ltd., Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Bristol Myers Squibb, and Ryvu Therapeutics. The company was established in 2008 and is based in Mainz, Germany.
