Business
Pharmaron Beijing Co., Ltd. is a premier global life sciences contract research organization (CRO) and contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) headquartered in Beijing, China, founded in 2004. The company provides comprehensive research, development, and manufacturing service capabilities supporting the entire drug discovery, preclinical, and clinical development process across multiple therapeutic modalities, including small molecules, biologics, and cell and gene therapy (CGT) products. Its core service offerings include synthetic, medicinal, and analytical chemistry services; in vitro and in vivo biology services such as screening, structural biology, and biomarker development; drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics (DMPK) including ADME and PKPD studies; pharmacology services with animal disease models and immunotoxicity assessment; drug safety evaluation including toxicology and genetic toxicology; radiochemistry and isotopically labelled metabolism; chemistry, manufacturing, and controls (CMC) services including active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturing, process chemistry, and formulation development; and clinical development services including First-in-Human trials, ethnobridging, microdosing Phase 0 studies, and absolute bioavailability assessments. Pharmaron operates globally with significant facilities and capabilities in China, the United States, and the United Kingdom, serving partners primarily in North America, Europe, Japan, and China. The company has over 21,000 employees and maintains integrated drug discovery and CMC development platforms, particularly with a strategic site in Hoddesdon, UK, which supports programs from hit identification through to GMP drug product manufacturing. Recent major developments include the acquisition of Biortus in October 2025 to strengthen its structural biology and protein science services, enhancing its global structure-based drug discovery (SBDD) and biologic discovery capabilities. This acquisition synergizes with Pharmaron’s existing bioscience services, supporting the acceleration of pharmaceutical R&D programs and leveraging AI technology to optimize operations. Previously, Pharmaron invested £151 million into a UK gene therapy CDMO supported by a UK government grant and acquired commercial API manufacturing facilities in the United States and the United Kingdom to expand its CMC capabilities. It also acquired majority ownership in LinkStart to enhance its clinical service capacity in China, thereby advancing its integrated global clinical platforms strategy. The company continues to invest in innovation, facilities, and talent to meet evolving scientific and regulatory demands, underpinning its commitment to delivering scientific breakthroughs for its partners worldwide. Pharmaron’s integrated end-to-end capabilities position it as a leading contract service provider in the pharmaceutical R&D value chain, from early discovery through clinical development and commercial manufacturing, emphasizing advanced modalities and emerging therapies including CGT products. This comprehensive service portfolio combined with recent strategic investments and partnerships demonstrate Pharmaron’s continued expansion and strengthening of its global footprint within the life sciences R&D service industry.
