Business
AirAsia X Berhad operates as a medium-haul low-cost airline primarily in the Asia-Pacific region; it provides scheduled passenger flight services from hubs in Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok to destinations including Australia (Sydney, Melbourne, Perth), China (Beijing, Hangzhou, Shanghai, Changsha, Chengdu, Chongqing, Xi'an), India (New Delhi), South Korea (Seoul), Japan (Tokyo, Osaka, Sapporo), Taiwan (Taipei), Indonesia (Bali), Saudi Arabia (Jeddah, Medina), Kazakhstan (Almaty), and Kenya (Nairobi); the company offers fares targeted at 30%-50% lower than full-service carriers, supported by a low unit cost base with cost per available seat kilometre of 13.88 sen and excluding fuel at 6.46 sen for the year ended 31 December 2024. Founded in 2006 as Fly Asian Express and rebranded in 2007, AirAsia X Berhad maintains its headquarters and registered office at the RedQ facility, Jalan Pekeliling 5, Kuala Lumpur International Airport, 64000 KLIA, Selangor Darul Ehsan, Malaysia; it operates a core fleet of 18 Airbus A330-300 aircraft, with its associate Thai AirAsia X Co., Ltd maintaining eight A330-300 aircraft. The airline serves leisure and budget-conscious travelers across these international routes, focusing on operational efficiency through optimized fleet utilization and network connectivity. In October 2025, AirAsia X Berhad fulfilled all conditions precedent in its Share Sale and Purchase Agreements with Capital A Berhad, making unconditional its acquisitions of AirAsia Aviation Group Limited (holding stakes in AirAsia Thailand, AirAsia Indonesia, AirAsia Philippines, and AirAsia Cambodia) and AirAsia Berhad; these transactions establish a consolidated platform rebranded as AirAsia Group, enabling service of both medium- and short-haul routes across Asia, Australia, the Middle East, and beyond with enhanced synergies in fleet planning, digital operations, and customer experience. The company secured shareholder approval for these acquisitions in October 2024 and obtained a RM1 billion private placement commitment alongside regulatory exemptions, including from Thailand; it launched its inaugural Kuala Lumpur-Istanbul route in November 2025 with four weekly flights, marking entry into Europe, and plans additional European routes from 2026 alongside expansions to Russia and further Middle East destinations. AirAsia X Berhad operates subsidiaries such as multiple AAX Leasing entities for aircraft financing and AAX Aviation Capital Ltd as a holding company, alongside a 49% stake in Thai AirAsia X and previously in PT Indonesia AirAsia Extra.
