Business
Sharp Corporation manufactures and sells telecommunications equipment, electric and electronic application equipment, electronic components, and consumer electronics, including televisions, smartphones, air purifiers, kitchen appliances, and display devices. The company operates primarily in Japan, China, and globally, with a strong presence in consumer products as well as B2B segments like office and industrial solutions. Founded in 1912 and headquartered in Sakai, Osaka, Japan, Sharp is known for its innovation in areas such as IGZO display technology, AI-powered devices, and energy-efficient appliances. Recent major developments include a strengthened partnership with Australia-based distributor Tempo to develop AI-driven refrigeration and cleaning products, deepened collaboration with parent company Foxconn on AI, data centers, server technology, and consumer products, as well as expanded R&D investment focused on smart home appliances and digital solutions. Sharp has also launched new products featuring proprietary technologies such as a high-speed oven with Quad Heating Technology, low-noise hair dryers and vacuum cleaners, non-contact vital sensors, polymer lens cameras for AI applications, and AI olfactory sensors. In addition, Sharp has entered the South Indian market through a strategic partnership with Systech IT Solutions, extending its consumer appliance reach. The company is undergoing a medium-term management plan to double investment in home appliance R&D by 2027 and leverage its consumer brand strength in synergy with Foxconn's manufacturing scale. Sharp is also focusing on innovation in AI, robotics, and electric vehicles, alongside restructuring its LCD operations to integrate hardware capabilities with customized digital solutions for offices and factories. These strategic initiatives underline Sharp's commitment to advancing technology and expanding both its product portfolio and global market presence.
