Business
ROHM Co., Ltd. is a Japan-based manufacturer specializing in the design, manufacture, and sale of electronic components, including integrated circuits (ICs), discrete semiconductor devices, and modules. Its product portfolio spans analog ICs, power management ICs, microcontrollers, sensors, optical semiconductors, power modules, MOSFETs, diodes, and silicon carbide (SiC) devices. ROHM serves diverse markets such as automotive, industrial, consumer electronics, and communications globally, with significant operations in Japan, China, Europe, and the Americas. Founded in 1958 and headquartered in Kyoto, Japan, ROHM maintains a vertically integrated production system covering wafer fabrication to packaging. Recent major developments include a strategic partnership and share acquisition agreement with DENSO Corporation announced in 2024, aimed at enhancing semiconductor supply stability and joint development of analog semiconductors for automotive and industrial applications with a focus on carbon neutrality and sustainable technology. ROHM also launched its EcoSiC™ brand in 2024, expanding its portfolio of silicon carbide power semiconductor devices designed for high efficiency and environmental sustainability. Additionally, the company introduced new power and analog semiconductor products, including the TRCDRIVE pack™ SiC molded module, EcoIGBT™ for electric compressors, EcoSiC™ Schottky barrier diodes for onboard chargers, and a configurable PMIC with functional safety features. Furthermore, ROHM entered a strategic collaboration with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and ATX for the development and volume production of automotive-grade gallium nitride (GaN) high electron mobility transistors (HEMTs) to deliver compact, high-efficiency power solutions. This reinforces ROHM’s focus on advanced materials and systems integration to support energy conservation and technological innovation across its target markets. Throughout its history and recent strategic expansions, ROHM continues to leverage its comprehensive semiconductor design, development, and manufacturing capabilities to serve a broad spectrum of high-growth industries worldwide. Its recent operational changes emphasize sustainability, technological partnership, and product innovation to retain competitive leadership in the semiconductor industry.
