Business
American DG Energy Inc., once traded under the ticker ADGE, specialized in delivering decentralized energy solutions through its comprehensive "On-Site Utility" model. The company focused on the ownership, operation, distribution, installation, and maintenance of energy systems directly at customer premises throughout the United States. These systems were primarily natural gas-powered combined heat and power (CHP) units, also known as cogeneration, which generated electricity while simultaneously capturing waste heat to produce hot water and space heating. Additionally, American DG Energy provided water chiller systems for cooling applications and natural gas heat pumps, along with complete turnkey installation services for all its energy-producing offerings. Its unique business approach allowed clients to acquire energy at a predetermined discount compared to conventional utility rates, thereby eliminating the need for upfront capital investment, installation costs, or ongoing operational responsibilities. This model attracted a diverse clientele, including property owners and operators in sectors such as healthcare, hospitality, residential complexes, and athletic facilities. American DG Energy Inc. ceased independent public trading, being delisted on May 18, 2017, and subsequently became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tecogen Inc. following a stock-for-stock merger. This transaction, finalized in 2017, integrated American DG Energy's offerings into Tecogen's broader clean technology portfolio.
