Business
Alfen N.V. designs, develops, produces and sells smart grid solutions, energy storage systems and electric vehicle charging equipment for electricity grid operators, utilities, commercial customers and end-users. The company offers secondary transformer substations including concrete compact substations such as Diabolo, Rondo and Pacto series; grid automation devices and proprietary back-end systems for remote management and control; micro-grids and grid connections for greenhouse horticulture, EV fast-charging hubs and solar PV farms; modular stationary and mobile battery energy storage systems such as TheBattery Elements and Mobile-X for load balancing, peak shaving, grid frequency control, energy trading and ancillary services; smart EV chargers for home, office and public use including Tube, Eve Double PG-line, Twin 5 and Twin 5 Plus with AFIR compliance; and online management platforms for charging infrastructure with smart charging and load balancing capabilities. Alfen operates primarily in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, Nordics including Finland and Sweden, and other European markets with a subsidiary in Belgium and past expansions into the United Kingdom, Italy, Poland and Spain. Founded in 1937 and headquartered in Almere, Netherlands, the company recently updated its strategy in H2 2024 to focus on core markets of the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France and Nordics; strengthened partnerships such as with Greener for 56 Mobile-X storage systems and Oulun Energia for a 20MW/40MWh energy storage project in Finland; appointed a new CEO in July 2025; extended its financing arrangement to October 2027 with reduced revolving credit facility; reported Q3 2025 results emphasizing operational efficiencies; moved into a new headquarters, warehouse and production facility in 2024; launched Twin 5 Plus EV charger; and drove H1 2025 revenue of €211.5 million amid energy transition delays.
