Business
Ambika Cotton Mills Limited engages in the manufacture and sale of premium quality cotton yarn and knitted fabrics, operating primarily in India with exports constituting around 60% of its revenue. The company produces a variety of cotton yarn counts ranging from 20s to 140s, including compact yarn, elitwist yarn, cotton ring spun yarn, and hard and soft twist yarn, catering to hosiery, weaving, shirting, and knitting applications. It sources extra-long-staple cotton from the US, Egypt, and Australia, blending imported and indigenous cotton to deliver contamination-free, high-grade yarn used by leading shirt and knitted garment manufacturers globally. Founded in 1988 and headquartered in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, the company also operates manufacturing facilities in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu, and has a knitting division with an installed capacity of 14,400 tonnes per year. Ambika Cotton Mills integrates vertical operations including spinning, knitting, and wind power generation for captive consumption to enhance operational efficiency. Recently, Ambika Cotton Mills has reported improved profitability with net profit growth reflected in its Q2 2025 results, despite a generally challenging textile industry environment. The company continues to strengthen its balance sheet and operational capabilities by modernizing production equipment, establishing a new Stenter plant for fabric processing, and maintaining stable yarn prices. It has also benefited from the Indian government’s temporary removal of the 11% cotton import duty, which enhances competitiveness against regional peers. Ambika Cotton Mills maintains compliance with regulatory requirements and continues its commitment to sustainability via its Business Responsibility and Sustainability Reporting. The company has faced and managed regulatory and compliance issues, including GST demands and SEBI listing regulation fines, while maintaining steady business operations and export focus. Ambika Cotton Mills targets premium domestic and international markets, serving top-tier apparel brands and manufacturers with a focus on quality and contamination-free cotton yarn and fabrics. Its strategic emphasis on high-quality compact and elitwist yarn product lines, knitting expansion, and integration of renewable energy sources to power spinning operations distinguishes its market position. The company’s comprehensive product portfolio, combined with recent operational and financial improvements, underscores its role as a key player in India’s cotton yarn and knitted fabric industry.
