Business
Xtrackers Harvest CSI 300 China A-Shares ETF (ASHR) is an exchange-traded fund that seeks to track the performance, before fees and expenses, of the CSI 300 Index, comprising the 300 largest and most liquid China A-share stocks listed on the Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Exchanges; it provides U.S. investors with direct access to mainland Chinese equities through physical holdings of A-shares, employing a full replication strategy; the fund may also invest in depositary receipts and derivative instruments for exposure to Chinese issuers. Launched on November 5, 2013, and domiciled in the United States, ASHR is issued by DWS under the Xtrackers brand, with sub-advisory services provided by Harvest Global Investments Limited, leveraging a strategic partnership established through a 2005 joint venture between DWS Group and Harvest Group. The ETF targets institutional and retail investors seeking exposure to China's large- and mid-cap A-share market, primarily in sectors including financials (approximately 27%), industrials (16%), information technology (15%), and consumer staples (10%), with top holdings such as Kweichow Moutai Co Ltd, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd, and Ping An Insurance Group Co of China Ltd; it operates globally but focuses investments on mainland China via the Renminbi Qualified Foreign Institutional Investor (RQFII) quota framework. Recent regulatory developments in China have facilitated ASHR's operations, including the merger and relaxation of QFII and RQFII regimes effective November 1, 2020, with further enhancements by the People's Bank of China (PBOC) and State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE) on July 26, 2024, expanding investment scopes, easing qualification requirements, and improving supervision for foreign investors accessing A-shares. The fund maintains a net expense ratio of 0.65% and, as of June 30, 2025, manages approximately $1.91 billion in net assets with 288 holdings, reflecting ongoing liquidity and semi-annual index reviews without reported acquisitions, funding rounds, or major strategic shifts in 2024-2025; its passive management by DBX Advisors LLC emphasizes replication of the CSI 300 Index amid evolving U.S.-China investment restrictions.
