Business
Avantis Emerging Markets Value ETF (AVES) is an actively managed exchange-traded fund that seeks to provide investment results corresponding to emerging markets equities exhibiting value and profitability characteristics; it invests primarily in equity securities of companies in emerging market countries, focusing on those with lower prices relative to book values and high profitability-to-book ratios; under normal market conditions, at least 80% of assets are allocated to such securities across large, mid, and small capitalization companies domiciled in or tied to emerging markets, including but not limited to Argentina, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Korea, Kuwait, Malaysia, Mexico, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, and United Arab Emirates. AVES does not track a specific index but employs a proprietary systematic approach informed by financial science, overweighting securities with higher expected returns based on current market prices, book equity, and projected profits while managing risks associated with international and emerging markets exposure, such as political instability and currency fluctuations. Launched on September 28, 2021, and issued by American Century ETF Trust under the management of Avantis Investors—a division of American Century Investments headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri—the fund trades on the NYSE Arca with a net expense ratio of 0.36% and holds approximately 1,755 to 1,762 securities, resulting in broad diversification across sectors and market caps. In a recent major development, Avantis Investors announced a strategic alliance with CIBC Asset Management Inc. on November 26, 2025, to launch eight new Avantis CIBC ETFs in Canada, including an Avantis CIBC Emerging Markets Equity ETF, marking an expansion of its offerings into the Canadian market through this partnership. The fund maintains semi-annual distributions with a recent payout ratio around 42.68% and continues to emphasize smaller companies over mega-caps to capture potentially higher returns, as articulated by portfolio managers including Daniel Ong, Mitchell Firestein, Eduardo Repetto, Ted Randall, and Matthew Dubin.
