Business
AVI Global Trust plc (AGT) is a United Kingdom-based closed-end investment company listed on the London Stock Exchange and a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index. The company seeks capital growth through a focused portfolio of global equities, primarily companies trading at discounts to their estimated underlying net asset value (NAV), including holding companies, closed-end funds, and asset-backed special situations; its investment manager, Asset Value Investors Limited, employs bottom-up fundamental research with shareholder engagement to enhance value. AGT maintains a concentrated portfolio of 30 to 50 holdings across diverse sectors such as consumer discretionary, industrials, financials, and information technology, and geographies including Europe, Japan, North America, Asia, and the United Kingdom, with no specific geographic limits. Founded in 1889 and headquartered at 19th Floor, 51 Lime Street, London EC3M 7DQ, the trust has grown its assets under management to over £1.2 billion as of September 2024 under AVI's management since 1985. Recent portfolio optimizations include the full exit from long-term holding Pershing Square Holdings to fund new positions in GCP Infrastructure Investments, Entain plc, Chrysalis Investments, and increased stakes in Bolloré SE, News Corp, and Hipgnosis Songs Fund; deployment of gearing for the first time since 2021; and a third debt financing transaction with PGIM Private Capital in September 2024, comprising a ¥5 billion long-term facility at 15-year tenor. In July 2025, portfolio holding Vivendi benefited from a French AMF ruling obligating Bolloré to launch a takeover offer, while the fiscal year ended September 2025 delivered a NAV total return of +12.4%, with the Annual General Meeting on 19 December 2024 passing all resolutions overwhelmingly.
