Founded in 1969 and headquartered in Brasília, Brazil, BRB maintains a network of branches, ATMs, and correspondent banking agents focused on the Midwest region while leveraging technology for national reach; it operates as a publicly traded entity with the Distrito Federal government as its controlling shareholder. Recent major developments include the 2023 partnership with Mercado Livre to launch BRB em Mercado Pago, enabling digital accounts and financial services within the e-commerce platform; a strategic alliance with American Express in 2024 for co-branded credit cards targeting premium customers; the acquisition of a stake in C6 Bank's consortium operations in 2024 to bolster non-banking financial services; and the launch of BRB Token, a blockchain-based digital token for investments, alongside expansions in open banking and Pix instant payments infrastructure to enhance digital transformation. In 2025, BRB announced a capital increase via a public offering to fund further technological investments and market expansion, alongside a rebranding initiative under its "novo.brb" platform emphasizing sustainability and fintech integration. The bank continues to prioritize ESG initiatives, including green financing for renewable energy projects in partnership with regional development agencies.
