Business
Balkrishna Industries Limited (BKT) is an Indian multinational company specializing in the manufacture and sale of off-highway tires used in agricultural, industrial, construction, mining, and earthmoving applications. The company offers a comprehensive range of products including agricultural tires (for tractors, harvesters, sprayers, and implements), industrial tires, skid steer tires, forestry tires, telehandler tires, agro truck tires, mower tires, and specialized tires for compact loaders, backhoe loaders, and trailers. BKT also produces ultra-large-sized all-steel OTR (Off-The-Road) radial tires. Its operations span globally, with manufacturing plants in India and subsidiaries including a wholly owned subsidiary in the United States and a newly established subsidiary in the Netherlands. Founded in 1987 and headquartered in Mumbai, India, Balkrishna Industries has evolved into a leading global player in off-highway tire manufacturing. The company serves original equipment manufacturers (OEM) such as JCB, John Deere, and CNH Industrial, and focuses on replacement markets primarily in North America and Europe. BKT's strategic initiatives include substantial capacity expansions, including the recent increase in its carbon black manufacturing capacity from 115,000 to 200,000 metric tons per annum and a related upgrade in captive power generation. The company has also commissioned modernization, automation, and technological upgrades at multiple plants. Significant recent developments include the merger of its wholly owned subsidiary BKT Tyres Limited into the parent company as of April 2024, the construction of a new mold plant at Bhuj, and ongoing capacity expansions at new and existing plants. In 2025, Balkrishna Industries unveiled a five-year strategic plan backed by a Rs 3,500 crore investment aimed at tripling revenues to Rs 23,000 crore (approximately USD 2.6 billion) by 2030. This plan focuses on strengthening its leadership in the Off-Highway Tire sector, expanding its carbon black business, and diversifying into new tire categories such as truck and bus radial tires (TBR) and passenger car radial tires (PCR) in the Indian market. The company has also approved an increase in production capacity from 200,000 to 360,000 metric tons annually, scheduled for completion by early 2026. Balkrishna Industries operates in five manufacturing locations in India including Aurangabad, Bhiwadi, Chopanki, Dombivali, and Bhuj, and maintains distribution and warehousing facilities internationally, including in North America. It is recognized for durable, high-performance tires designed to improve agricultural efficiency by reducing soil compaction and enhancing traction. Its products support a variety of customer segments including farmers, industrial users, and construction companies across multiple regions worldwide. Overall, Balkrishna Industries Limited is positioned as a key off-highway tire manufacturer with a clear strategic focus on growth through product diversification, capacity expansion, and technological innovation to meet rising global demand.
