Business
GraniteShares Gold Trust (BAR) is a grantor trust that issues exchange-traded shares providing investors with exposure to the price performance of physical gold bullion, less the Trust's expenses and liabilities. The Trust holds only London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) Good Delivery gold bars, stored in a secure vault in London, UK, with custody provided by ICBC Standard Bank Plc; no lending of metal or derivatives are permitted, ensuring full physical backing and transparency through daily published holdings and semi-annual vault audits. BAR trades on NYSE Arca and offers a cost-effective alternative to direct physical gold ownership by eliminating storage and insurance costs. Launched on August 31, 2017, the Trust operates in the commodities sector, specifically the precious metals segment, targeting retail and institutional investors seeking gold as a diversification tool uncorrelated to equities and bonds, a safe haven during market crises, or an inflation hedge. GraniteShares Advisors LLC serves as the sponsor, with the parent firm GraniteShares headquartered in New York, NY. The Trust's geographic focus centers on U.S. trading with international gold storage in the United Kingdom. In May 2025, the board of the related GraniteShares ETF Trust approved the liquidation of the GraniteShares 1x Short AMD Daily ETF, reflecting ongoing portfolio adjustments within the sponsor's broader lineup of commodity, leveraged, inverse, and income-generating ETFs. GraniteShares continues to expand its offerings, including YieldBoost ETFs employing put spread strategies on leveraged products for weekly income distributions, alongside single-stock and large-cap index funds. No major acquisitions, funding rounds, or product launches specific to BAR have been reported in the last two years.
