Business
Bahrain Islamic Bank B.S.C. (BisB) is a Bahrain-based financial institution that provides Sharia-compliant retail, corporate, and investment banking products and services. Founded in 1979 as the first Islamic commercial bank in the Kingdom of Bahrain, the bank is headquartered in Manama and operates primarily within Bahrain as a subsidiary of the National Bank of Bahrain B.S.C. (NBB Group). BisB structures its operations into three core business segments: Retail Banking, Corporate Banking, and Treasury and Investments. The Retail Banking segment delivers consumer financial products, including current and savings accounts; Tejoori Al Islami investment accounts; Wakala and Mudaraba term deposits; personal financing via Murabaha and Tawarruq; vehicle financing; residential mortgage and Mazaya social housing finance through Ijarah Muntahia Bittamleek; Sharia-compliant credit, debit, and prepaid cards; private banking and wealth management services; and digital banking solutions. The Corporate Banking segment provides financial services to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), mid-market firms, large corporations, and institutional clients, offering working capital financing; project and asset-backed finance; trade finance solutions, including letters of credit and letters of guarantee; syndicated financing facilities; corporate liquidity management; commercial real estate financing; and escrow management services. The Treasury and Investments segment oversees the bank's liquidity portfolio, asset and liability management, money market operations, foreign exchange transactions, commodity Murabaha arrangements, and proprietary investments in sovereign and corporate Sukuk, equities, and managed funds. In recent operational and strategic developments, Bahrain Islamic Bank has accelerated its comprehensive digital transformation roadmap, rolling out end-to-end paperless digital onboarding for both retail and corporate clients, integrating Open Banking application programming interfaces (APIs), and enhancing its BisB Mobile and BisB Corporate digital platforms; expanded its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) footprint by launching dedicated green financing solutions for solar energy adoption and sustainable real estate projects; established strategic fintech partnerships to enhance contactless payment infrastructure and digital security; and deepened integration and operational alignment with parent entity National Bank of Bahrain to optimize shared services, cross-selling capabilities, and long-term balance sheet resilience across the domestic market.
