iShares International Dividend Active ETF (BIDD) is an actively managed exchange-traded fund that seeks long-term total return and current income by investing primarily in dividend-paying equity securities of companies outside the United States. The fund employs fundamental research and a top-down stock-picking approach to select high-quality, large-cap growth and value stocks from developed and emerging markets worldwide, with at least 80% of its net assets allocated to such equities issued by companies deriving at least 50% of revenues, profits, sales, or assets from non-U.S. sources; it may also invest up to 20% in global fixed income securities or derivatives, and holds diversified positions across sectors including financials (approximately 27%), technology (22%), industrials (14%), consumer cyclical (10%), and healthcare (7%), with top holdings such as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd., Shell PLC, HDFC Bank Ltd. ADR, L'Air Liquide S.A., and AstraZeneca PLC. BIDD targets institutional and retail investors seeking international dividend exposure, operates globally across regions including Europe, Asia-Pacific, and emerging markets in at least three countries, and benchmarks its performance against the MSCI ACWI ex USA Index.
Launched as an ETF on November 15, 2024, following the conversion of BlackRock's longstanding International Dividend mutual fund (originally formed in 1997), BIDD marked BlackRock's first active mutual fund-to-ETF conversion, bringing approximately $756 million in initial assets under management and offering enhanced liquidity, intraday trading, and potential tax efficiency with a net expense ratio of 0.59% (0.60% gross management fee). The fund is managed by an all-female portfolio management team led by Olivia Treharne (Managing Director) and Molly Greenen (Director) on BlackRock's Global Core Equity team, continuing the strategy's historical outperformance track record. As of late 2025, BIDD maintains assets under management around $716 million, with approximately 40-58 holdings and a dividend yield of about 1.7%.
The ETF is issued by BlackRock ETF Trust (iShares Trust), domiciled in the United States with headquarters in New York, New York, and benefits from BlackRock's broader iShares platform, which pioneered ETFs in 1996 and manages trillions in assets globally.
