Business
iShares Health Innovation Active ETF (BMED) is an actively managed exchange-traded fund that seeks to maximize total return by investing in innovative and emerging companies within the healthcare sector, including health care providers; businesses involved in researching, developing, producing, distributing, or delivering medical, dental, optical, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology products, supplies, equipment, or services; support services providers to these companies; owners or operators of health facilities and hospitals; clinical testing laboratories; diagnostics; hospital, laboratory, or physician ancillary products and support services; rehabilitation services; employer health insurance management services; and vendors of goods and services specifically to health sciences companies. The fund concentrates its investments in the health sciences group of industries, with a portfolio typically comprising approximately 115 equity holdings, primarily U.S. stocks (around 79%) supplemented by non-U.S. stocks (around 19%), and top holdings including Abbott Laboratories, Medtronic plc, Boston Scientific Corp., Edwards Lifesciences Corp., and Johnson & Johnson. Launched on September 29, 2020, BMED is issued and managed by BlackRock, Inc., the world's largest asset manager headquartered in New York City with operations across 30 countries; the fund exhibits a net expense ratio of 0.55% (after fee waivers), assets under management of approximately $4 million, and trades on U.S. exchanges targeting institutional and retail investors focused on healthcare innovation. Recent portfolio adjustments reflect ongoing active management amid healthcare sector dynamics, including shifts in top holdings such as increased weighting in Boston Scientific and Lonza Group alongside changes in broader indices affecting holdings like Biogen, with no major structural alterations, partnerships, acquisitions, funding rounds, new product launches, or reorganizations reported for the fund in the last 1-2 years as of December 2025. BMED operates globally through its equity exposures, emphasizing mid- and large-cap blend styles within the healthcare industry.
