Business
Buru Energy Limited (ASX:BRU) engages in the exploration, development, and production of oil and gas resources in Western Australia. The company operates through Oil Production, Exploration, and Energy Transition segments; it owns and operates the 100% interest conventional Ungani Oilfield and the Rafael 1 conventional gas and condensate discovery in the Canning Basin in the southwest Kimberley region; holds interests in an extensive portfolio of petroleum exploration permits and licenses covering approximately 5.5 million gross acres for conventional and unconventional hydrocarbons, carbon capture and storage, and battery minerals exploration; and previously pursued natural hydrogen and helium through subsidiaries. Buru Energy maintains operations in the onshore Canning and Carnarvon basins in northwest Western Australia, with additional exploration license applications in South Australia and Western Australia targeting helium. Founded in 2008 and headquartered in West Perth, Australia, the company targets regional energy markets including power generation, mining, and LNG for remote industries. In recent developments, Buru Energy executed a Strategic Development Agreement in April 2025 with Clean Energy Fuels Australia Pty Ltd (CEFA) to co-develop the Rafael Gas Project, under which CEFA finances and operates a small-scale LNG plant with up to 300 tonnes per day capacity on the Rafael 1 well pad while Buru manages upstream operations, native title negotiations, and environmental approvals toward a final investment decision in late 2025 or early 2026. The company raised approximately A$2.1 million via share placement in August 2025 and A$2.35 million through a Share Purchase Plan completed in October 2025 to fund Rafael appraisal, regulatory approvals, and securing an upstream partner. Buru sold its natural hydrogen and helium subsidiary 2H Resources to Koloma Australia for up to A$2 million in July 2025, including non-core Canning Basin acreage, to sharpen focus on the Rafael Project while retaining a re-entry option for future hydrogen developments. Production at Ungani remained suspended through 2024 with exploration of alternative export routes and domestic offtake for power and marine fuel.
