Business
Buffalo Large Cap Fund (BUFEX) is an actively managed open-end mutual fund that seeks long-term growth of capital by investing at least 80% of its net assets in equity securities, consisting of common stocks, preferred stocks, convertible securities, warrants, and rights, primarily of large capitalization companies with growth characteristics; up to 20% may be allocated to foreign stocks. The fund employs a top-down trend identification approach combined with bottom-up fundamental research and strict valuation discipline to select premier companies benefiting from secular growth trends such as demographic changes and globalization. Investor class shares (BUFEX) carry a net expense ratio of 0.90%, with institutional class shares (BUIEX) at 0.78%; minimum initial investments are $2,500 for investor shares and $1 million for institutional shares. Managed by Kornitzer Capital Management, Inc. (KCM), the fund is part of the Buffalo Funds family of 10 no-load, actively managed mutual funds spanning domestic equity, international equity, and income strategies, available to individual investors, institutions, 401(k) plans, and Fortune 500 companies. Ken Laudan serves as the lead portfolio manager since April 8, 2021, following the departure of co-manager Alexander Hancock in April 2021, marking a significant shift to sole management under Laudan's direction. The fund's portfolio typically holds around 80 large-cap growth stocks, with top holdings including Microsoft Corp., Apple Inc., NVIDIA Corp., Amazon.com Inc., and Alphabet Inc., representing over 40% of assets as of recent data. KCM, adviser to the Buffalo Funds, is a privately owned boutique investment firm founded in 1989 by John C. Kornitzer and headquartered at 5420 W. 61st Place, Mission, Kansas, just outside Kansas City. The Buffalo Funds family originated in 1994, with BUFEX launched on May 19, 1995, and operates primarily in the United States, targeting long-term investors seeking growth through diversified large-cap exposure. In June 2023, KCM and Buffalo Funds entered a five-year strategic partnership with Sporting Kansas City, securing naming rights for the Buffalo Funds Executive Level at Children's Mercy Park and enhancing brand visibility among sports fans and institutions.
