Business
Barak Valley Cements Limited manufactures and markets Ordinary Portland Cement in 43 and 53 grades and Portland Pozzolana Cement, including fly ash-based and calcined clay-based variants, under the Valley Strong Cement brand using dry process rotary kiln technology with four-stage suspension pre-heater; the company operates an integrated cement plant with 0.33 million tonnes per annum capacity for cement and 0.23 million tonnes for clinker at Jhoom Basti, Debendra Nagar, Badarpur Ghat, Karimganj district, Assam, sourcing limestone entirely from captive mines of wholly owned subsidiary Meghalaya Minerals and Mines Limited in Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya, while grinding operations occur at subsidiary Cement International Limited nearby. Incorporated in 1999 and headquartered in Karimganj, Assam, Barak Valley Cements primarily serves contractors, builders, institutions, and government agencies such as CPWD, ONGC, and BSF through 150-160 dealers across North-Eastern states including Assam, Mizoram, Tripura, Manipur, and Meghalaya, leveraging its location on National Highway 44 for regional market access. In recent developments, the company achieved capacity utilization above 100% for cement and nearly 92% for clinker in FY24 amid strong demand growth, boosting standalone revenue 33% to Rs 232 crore and profit after tax 70% to Rs 9.86 crore; it maintains four wholly owned subsidiaries, with Meghalaya Minerals and Mines Limited supplying key raw materials and Valley Strong Cements (Assam) Limited holding environmental clearance for a proposed 2,000 tonnes per day greenfield expansion, while board changes in 2024 included resignations and appointments of additional directors.
