The company operates as a key operating subsidiary within Grupo Distriluz under the majority ownership and oversight of the National Fund for the Financing of State Enterprise Activity (FONAFE). Originally founded in 1946 as Energia Hidroelectrica Andina S.A. and formally incorporated in its modern structure in 1982, the company is headquartered in Trujillo, Peru. Hidrandina delivers electrical power and related utility services across a concession area in northern Peru that encompasses the departments of La Libertad and Ancash, as well as multiple provinces within the Cajamarca department, serving over 1.2 million residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional customers across both regulated and unregulated power markets.
The company provides a comprehensive range of electrical utility products, grid solutions, and infrastructure services, which include: high-, medium-, and low-voltage electric power distribution to domestic, commercial, and industrial consumers; electricity supply commercialization, tariff administration, and metering services for regulated and free-market power clients; public street lighting services, including the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of public lighting fixtures and smart urban illumination systems; electricity transmission system management, including the operation, maintenance, and upgrade of transmission lines, primary transformers, and distribution substations; customer connection, grid tie-in, capacity expansion, and power quality management services; advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) deployment, smart meter installation, remote monitoring, and meter reading services; rural electrification projects, feeder line extensions, and network expansion for underserved regional communities; and digital customer service platforms, electronic billing, online payment gateways, and emergency grid maintenance services.
In recent developments, Hidrandina has launched a comprehensive 2025–2028 multi-year capital investment program with a budget exceeding 521.5 million Peruvian soles aimed at reinforcing network reliability, digitalizing infrastructure, and meeting rising industrial and urban energy demand across its operating concessions. Key components of this expansion include strategic substation and transmission line projects, such as the construction and reinforcement of the Salaverry substation in Trujillo, the 60 kV Cajamarca Norte transmission line and substation, and major capacity enhancements at the Huarmey substation in the Chimbote sector. Furthermore, the company is advancing a large-scale public lighting modernization initiative to upgrade more than 50% of its total street lighting footprint to energy-efficient LED technology, while expanding its pilot roll-out of smart digital meters equipped with automated remote communication capabilities to enhance real-time outage detection, optimize consumption management, and curb non-technical energy losses.
