Caterpillar targets customers in construction, mining, forestry, agriculture, energy, transportation, and material-handling sectors with durable, technologically advanced machinery emphasizing sustainability, fuel efficiency, and reduced emissions. In October 2025, Caterpillar entered an agreement to acquire RPMGlobal Holdings Limited, an Australian mining software provider specializing in lifecycle solutions for asset management, fleet management, and autonomy, with the $728 million deal expected to close in the first quarter of 2026 pending shareholder and regulatory approvals; in October 2025, announced a $725 million expansion of its Lafayette, Indiana large engine facility to boost production amid rising energy demand from AI, data centers, and infrastructure, alongside a five-year $100 million U.S. workforce training pledge; and in February 2025, signed a five-year global framework agreement with Vale to enhance productivity, innovation, and decarbonization, including dual-fuel haul trucks powered by diesel and ethanol.
