Business
Commerce Funds Value Fund, Institutional Shares (CFVLX) is an actively managed open-end mutual fund that seeks capital appreciation and, secondarily, current income through investments in a diversified portfolio of equity securities, primarily common stocks of companies offering excellent value relative to their current prices. The Fund invests at least 65% of its total assets in stocks within the Russell 1000 Value Index universe that exhibit above-average dividend yields, targeting higher returns than the index over time via capital appreciation and dividend income; it may allocate significant assets to financial and technology sectors and holds positions such as iShares Russell 1000 Value ETF, JPMorgan Chase & Co., Berkshire Hathaway Inc., Alphabet Inc., and Broadcom Inc. Commerce Funds, the fund family sponsor effective since December 12, 1994 and advised by Commerce Investment Advisors, Inc., a subsidiary of Commerce Bancshares, Inc., offers nine actively managed mutual funds encompassing current income, capital preservation, and growth strategies, with total assets exceeding $2.5 billion as of March 31, 2025; the Value Fund itself, with an inception date of March 3, 1997, manages approximately $257 million in assets, a net expense ratio of 0.71%, and a minimum initial investment of $1,000 for institutional shares. Headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri, as part of Commerce Bancshares' operations spanning Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, Oklahoma, and Colorado, the Fund targets U.S. large-value investors through daily pricing and no-load share classes. The Fund's Equity Strategy Team, averaging 38 years of experience and including managers Joseph Williams (since inception), Nong Lin (since 2012), and Donald McArthur (since March 2025), delivered a Q3 2025 return of 6.16%, outperforming the Russell 1000 Value Index's 5.33%, amid recent portfolio adjustments reflecting strong contributions from holdings like Oracle Corporation, AbbVie Inc., and Broadcom Inc. Commerce Funds are distributed by Goldman Sachs & Co. LLC, with no reported major acquisitions, partnerships, funding rounds, or strategic reorganizations specific to CFVLX in the last 1-2 years.
