Business
CGN New Energy Holdings Co., Ltd. is a diversified independent power producer principally engaged in the development, investment, operation, and management of power generation projects across multiple fuel types and geographies, primarily in the People's Republic of China and Korea. Founded in 2013 and headquartered in Shenzhen, China, the company operates an extensive portfolio comprising wind, solar, gas-fired, coal-fired, oil-fired, hydro, cogeneration, biomass, energy storage, and fuel cell projects. CGN New Energy serves the renewable energy and clean power sectors, targeting utility-scale power generation with a strong focus on clean and sustainable energy sources. The company operates through three primary segments: power plants in China, power plants in Korea, and management services, additionally providing management services to power plants operated by CGN and its subsidiaries. Key projects include large-scale wind and solar power bases such as the 3 GW Xing’an League New Energy Base and the 1 GW Chifeng New Energy Base, along with hydro and cogeneration plants. CGN New Energy’s portfolio also includes fishery-photovoltaic integrated projects and advanced fluidized-bed boilers in coal cogeneration for energy saving and emission reduction. In recent years, the company has undertaken significant strategic initiatives to expand and enhance its renewable energy capabilities and footprint. Notably, in 2025, CGN New Energy secured RMB 11.8 billion ($1.64 billion) in equity funding from six strategic investors for developing wind, solar, and energy storage projects in Inner Mongolia. It signed an agreement to develop a 700 MW renewable-powered hydrogen production demonstration project in Yumen, Gansu Province. The company also entered a RMB 567.2 million EPC contract for the second phase of a fishery and photovoltaic project in Jiangsu Province, signaling ongoing expansion in integrated renewable projects. Furthermore, CGN New Energy established CGN Africa Energy Co., Ltd. to deepen clean energy development in Africa, marking its strategic move into new geographic markets. CGN New Energy Holdings is a subsidiary of China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN), a leading state-owned enterprise, underscoring its linkage to a large, diversified energy conglomerate. The company emphasizes greenfield and brownfield project developments while also prioritizing acquisitions of clean and renewable power generation assets to strengthen its competitive position and achieve sustainable growth in the renewable energy sector. Its operations span across China, Korea, and increasingly into Africa, focusing on advancing clean energy solutions and contributing to energy transition and environmental sustainability.
