Business
Range Cancer Therapeutics ETF (CNCR) is an exchange-traded fund that seeks to track the total return performance, before fees and expenses, of the Range Cancer Therapeutics Index, comprising U.S. exchange-listed pharmaceutical and biotechnology stocks or American Depositary Receipts focused on cancer therapeutics research, development, and commercialization; the fund invests substantially all of its assets in the index's component securities, which typically include companies advancing therapies such as checkpoint inhibitors, CAR-T cell treatments, oncolytic viruses, molecular glue degraders, and other oncology modalities targeting solid tumors, rare cancers, and difficult-to-treat indications. Launched originally as the Loncar Cancer Immunotherapy ETF on October 13, 2015, by Exchange Traded Concepts LLC in partnership with Loncar Investments, it was rebranded to its current name in 2023 under Range Fund Holdings' sponsorship, broadening its mandate from immunotherapy-specific exposure to a wider array of cancer therapeutics while maintaining an equal-weighted or modified market-cap approach with quarterly rebalancing. The ETF operates primarily in developed North American markets, providing targeted access to the healthcare sector's oncology segment for institutional and retail investors seeking growth in cancer innovation. In October 2023, CNCR underwent a significant expansion through the merger with the Loncar China BioPharma ETF (CHNA), acquiring its assets to enhance diversification and incorporate additional biotechnology exposures. In November 2024, Range ETFs announced a strategic partnership with Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL), committing 23% of CNCR's fee revenues quarterly to support pioneering cancer research at the institution, highlighting the fund's alignment with early-stage oncology breakthroughs. However, on May 8, 2025, Exchange Traded Concepts disclosed plans to liquidate the fund effective after market close on May 15, 2025, with portfolio liquidation commencing around May 13, 2025, resulting in pro-rata cash distributions to shareholders treated as taxable events. These developments reflect ongoing evolution amid a dynamic biotech landscape, though the fund's closure marks the cessation of active operations as of mid-2025.
