Business
Baraka Power Limited is a Bangladesh-based independent power producer engaged in the development, financing, construction, and operation of power generation facilities. Founded in 2007 and headquartered in Sylhet, Bangladesh, with corporate offices in Dhaka, the company supplies bulk electricity to the national grid under long-term power purchase agreements with the Bangladesh Power Development Board. The company's core products and services include electricity generation through natural gas-fired reciprocating engine power plants; power generation through heavy fuel oil-based thermal facilities; engineering, procurement, and construction management for energy infrastructure; comprehensive operation and maintenance services for power generation assets; technical consultancy and testing for high-voltage substations and transmission equipment; and renewable energy development, including commercial and industrial rooftop solar photovoltaic installations. Baraka Power Limited operates its flagship 51-megawatt gas-fired power plant in Fenchuganj, Sylhet, and controls significant thermal generation capacity across the Chattogram region through its subsidiaries and associate entities, notably Baraka Patenga Power Limited, Karnaphuli Power Limited, and Baraka Shikalbaha Power Limited. In recent operational developments, the company has advanced a strategic initiative to expand its green energy footprint, pursuing grid-tied utility-scale solar projects and turnkey rooftop solar implementations to complement its conventional thermal portfolio. Additionally, Baraka Power Limited has engaged in contract renewals and capacity-extension negotiations with state energy authorities to adapt operating models toward flexible supply agreements, while enhancing cross-subsidiary operational integration with Baraka Patenga Power Limited to optimize fuel procurement, maintenance synergies, and working capital management amid evolving macroeconomic conditions.
