Business
Orion Pharma Ltd. is a Bangladesh-based pharmaceutical company engaged in the research, development, manufacturing, and marketing of branded-generic pharmaceutical formulations, alongside commercial power generation through its operating subsidiaries. Founded in 1965 as Orion Laboratories Limited, renamed to Orion Pharma Ltd. in 2010, and headquartered in Dhaka, Bangladesh, the company operates as a flagship healthcare unit of the Orion Group and trades publicly on the Dhaka Stock Exchange under the ticker ORIONPHARM. The company operates primarily through two business segments: Pharmaceuticals and Power Generation. The pharmaceutical division manufactures prescription medicines and consumer healthcare products across diverse therapeutic classes and dosage forms compliant with World Health Organization (WHO) current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) standards. Its comprehensive product portfolio includes cardiovascular and lipid-lowering agents such as Fenocap and Frulac; gastroprokinetic and antiulcerant medications such as Etopride and Alve; central nervous system therapies and anxiolytics such as Rivo and Timex; respiratory and antihistaminic drugs such as Deslor; anti-infectives including cephalosporin injectables; oncology and specialty anti-cancer formulations; hormone-based preparations; non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and analgesics; nutritional supplements, vitamins, and neuropathic treatments such as Nervex; and topical dermatologicals. The company manufactures these lines in dosage presentations including oral solid tablets and capsules; oral liquids, syrups, and dry powder suspensions; sterile injectables and pre-filled syringes (PFS); and topical creams and ointments, while collaborating with associate company Orion Infusion Limited for large-volume intravenous fluids and electrolytes. In its energy division, the company generates and supplies electricity to the national grid through power subsidiary ventures, including Orion Power Meghnaghat Limited and Dutch Bangla Power & Associates Limited. Geographically, Orion Pharma supplies hospitals, pharmacies, and healthcare institutions across Bangladesh and exports finished pharmaceutical products to international markets across Asia, Africa, and Europe. In recent developments, Orion Pharma has advanced a major capital expansion program comprising an estimated 250 million USD investment into a new 30-acre pharmaceutical manufacturing facility designed to comply with US FDA and UK MHRA regulatory standards, aimed at bolstering production of advanced oncology and cephalosporin therapies and accelerating export penetration into highly regulated global markets. Additionally, the company has expanded its commercial portfolio with the launch of new gastroprokinetic therapies such as Etopride, restructured its domestic distribution and field marketing operations to achieve record single-month revenue milestones alongside Orion Infusion Ltd., and actively adapted the operating agreements and asset strategy of its energy subsidiaries amid regulatory transitions across Bangladesh's power generation sector.
