Business
Direxion Dynamic Hedge ETF (DYHG) is an exchange-traded fund that seeks investment results, before fees and expenses, tracking the Salt truVol US Large Cap Dynamic Hedge Index. The fund provides investors with dynamic exposure to the S&P 500 Index through a proprietary volatility model developed by Salt Financial Indices, LLC, which adjusts net exposure by employing short futures contracts as a hedge ranging from 0% to 100% of the long position; this methodology leverages multiple intraday prices for precise volatility estimation, aiming to mitigate downside risk during periods of elevated market volatility while preserving upside participation in low-volatility environments. DYHG serves as a potential core equity holding for conservative U.S. large-cap allocations, targeting institutional and retail investors seeking improved risk-adjusted returns relative to long-only S&P 500 exposure. The ETF utilizes derivatives including futures contracts on the S&P 500 Index to implement its strategy, with daily monitoring and rebalancing dictated by the index's volatility signals; it focuses on the inverse relationship between equity returns and volatility, reducing hedge levels quickly during market recoveries to minimize performance drag. Geographically, DYHG operates primarily in U.S. equity markets, with no international exposure specified in its core strategy. Launched on June 11, 2020, by Direxion Shares ETF Trust and managed by Rafferty Asset Management, LLC, the fund was part of Direxion's expansion into long-term, buy-and-hold strategies alongside products like the Direxion High Growth ETF (HIPR). However, due to insufficient assets under management, the Board of Trustees approved its liquidation and closure in December 2021, with trading ceasing on January 14, 2022, and final liquidation on January 21, 2022; this decision aligned with closures of other low-interest ETFs like FLYT and LBJ. Direxion, the issuer, founded in 1997 and headquartered in New York, New York, specializes in leveraged and inverse ETFs across equity, fixed income, and thematic segments, with approximately $55 billion in assets under management as of recent filings; Rafferty Asset Management, LLC, serves as the adviser, overseeing a broad lineup of tactical trading and strategic exposure products distributed by Foreside Fund Services, LLC.
