Business
iShares MSCI Chile ETF (ECH) is an exchange-traded fund that seeks to track the investment results of the MSCI Chile IMI 25/50 Index, a free float-adjusted market capitalization-weighted index designed to measure the performance of large-, mid-, and small-cap segments of the Chilean equity market. The fund provides broad exposure to Chilean equities across diversified sectors including financials, materials, consumer staples, and energy; it holds approximately 26 stocks traded primarily on the Santiago Stock Exchange, with top holdings such as Banco de Chile and Banco Santander Chile, while applying RIC-compliant caps to limit any single issuer to no more than 25% weight and aggregate weights above 5% to no more than 50%. Launched on November 12, 2007 and domiciled in the United States, ECH is issued and managed by BlackRock, Inc. through its iShares business and BlackRock Fund Advisors, with headquarters in New York; it primarily targets institutional and retail investors seeking targeted access to the Chilean market, which represents approximately 99% free float-adjusted market capitalization coverage, and lists on the Cboe BZX Exchange with an expense ratio of 0.60%. In 2013, the fund transitioned its benchmark from the prior MSCI Chile Investable Market Index to the current MSCI Chile IMI 25/50 Index effective February 12, enhancing its alignment with RIC limits and broad market representation. Recent institutional activity includes new stakes by Mirae Asset Global ETFs Holdings Ltd. ($186,000 in Q1 2025), Trek Financial LLC ($200,000 in Q2 2025), and Pekin Hardy Strauss Inc. ($366,000 in Q2 2025), alongside position adjustments such as Banco BTG Pactual S.A. reducing its holdings by 61.3% in Q2 2025 and Sigma Planning Corp increasing by 27.5%; the fund has also seen strong performance momentum in 2025 amid commodity price rises and Chilean economic outlook improvements, with year-to-date total returns exceeding 32% as of late 2025.
