Business
Eaton Vance Senior Floating-Rate Trust (EFR) is a diversified, closed-end management investment trust launched and managed by Eaton Vance Management, now part of Morgan Stanley Investment Management following Morgan Stanley's acquisition of Eaton Vance in March 2021. The Trust's primary investment objective is to provide a high level of current income; as a secondary objective, it seeks capital preservation to the extent consistent with its primary goal. Under normal market conditions, the Trust invests at least 80% of its total assets in senior loans of domestic and foreign borrowers denominated in U.S. dollars, euros, British pounds, Swiss francs, Canadian dollars and Australian dollars; it primarily targets senior, secured floating-rate loans, with up to 20% of assets potentially in second lien loan interests or unsecured loans. The Trust, formed on November 28, 2003 and domiciled in the United States with headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts, trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker EFR and employs leverage to enhance returns. Its portfolio features investments in loans to borrowers across industries such as automotive, business services, chemicals, consumer products, software and telecommunications; top holdings include MSILF Government Portfolio, Les Schwab Tire Centers, UKG Inc., Virgin Media and Epicor, among others. Eaton Vance Management serves as investment adviser, with a team of portfolio managers including Andrew N. Sveen (Head of Floating-Rate Loans since 2019), Catherine McDermott (since 2019), Daniel P. McElaney (since 2019) and Sarah A. Choi (since 2022). Recent developments include ongoing monthly distributions, with recent payments such as $0.102 per share in December 2024 and adjustments including decreases to $0.088 per share in some periods alongside announcements of tender offers for auction preferred shares in prior years (finalized in 2018 and 2021). The Trust maintains a total net expense ratio of 3.39% (including 2.10% interest and fee expense) and as of recent data holds approximately $378.5 million in total net assets. No major acquisitions, partnerships or strategic shifts have been announced in the last 1-2 years beyond routine distribution announcements and portfolio management continuity post-Morgan Stanley integration.
