Business
Entergy Louisiana, LLC (ELU) is a subsidiary of Entergy Corporation that generates, transmits, distributes and sells electric power to approximately 1.1 million customers across 58 of Louisiana's 64 parishes, including operations in southern, central and northern regions of the state; it previously provided natural gas distribution services to over 93,000 customers in the greater Baton Rouge area until divesting that business in July 2025. The company operates a diverse portfolio of power plants utilizing natural gas, nuclear, coal and other fuels, including key facilities such as River Bend and Waterford 3 nuclear plants, the natural gas-fired Lake Charles Power Station, Nine Mile Point, Ouachita, Perryville, R.S. Nelson coal plant and multiple combined-cycle combustion turbine units; it maintains approximately 24,000 megawatts of generating capacity within Entergy's broader fleet and connects to the Midcontinent Independent System Operator grid. Headquartered in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Entergy Louisiana traces its origins to predecessors established in the early 20th century as part of the Middle South Utilities system, with Entergy Corporation formally incorporated in 1949 and headquartered in New Orleans. In recent developments, Entergy Louisiana signed a 20-year firm natural gas transportation agreement with Energy Transfer LP in November 2025 to supply fuel for new combined-cycle combustion turbine facilities in Richland Parish, supporting efficient cleaner energy production and major projects like Meta's hyperscale data center. The company broke ground in late 2025 on these state-of-the-art generation facilities, with Meta funding the interconnection infrastructure to avoid cost-shifting to other customers, enhancing system reliability and enabling load growth from data centers and commercial developments. Additionally, Entergy Louisiana issued $750 million principal amount of Class A Bonds under its First Mortgage in January 2025, bolstering capacity for property additions and retirements amid ongoing investments in modern natural gas, nuclear and renewable energy sources. These initiatives reflect strategic expansions to meet rising demand while prioritizing affordability, sustainability and economic benefits for Louisiana communities.
