Business
Amplify Emerging Markets FinTech ETF (EMFQ) is an exchange-traded fund that seeks investment results corresponding to the price and yield performance of the EQM Emerging Markets FinTech Index. The fund invests at least 80% of its net assets in equity securities issued by emerging market and frontier market companies deriving at least 50% of their revenue from financial technology (FinTech) activities, including payments, FinTech software, digital assets and wallets, banking, investment and trading platforms, lending and credit, insurance, and real estate services; it employs a modified equal-weight methodology with quarterly rebalancing. Launched on January 30, 2019, and listed on NYSE Arca, EMFQ holds approximately 38 securities with an expense ratio of 0.69%, exhibiting allocations across large-cap (44%), mid-cap (26%), and small-cap (29%) companies, primarily in financials (65%), consumer discretionary (12%), and information technology (10%) sectors. Geographically, the fund targets emerging and frontier markets such as China (28%), Brazil (14%), Indonesia (9%), South Korea (8%), Israel (7%), Singapore (6%), and others, providing exposure to companies like Jumia Technologies, Pagaya Technologies, Discovery Ltd., MercadoLibre, NU Holdings, Sea Ltd., and Bank Jago. The ETF is sponsored by Amplify Investments LLC, with Penserra Capital Management LLC serving as sub-advisor and Foreside Fund Services, LLC acting as distributor; Amplify Investments is headquartered in the United States. Originally launched as the Amplify International Online Retail ETF (ticker: XBUY), the fund underwent a significant strategic shift in February 2022, changing its name to Amplify Emerging Markets FinTech ETF and adopting the EQM Emerging Markets FinTech Index to refocus on FinTech themes amid the digital revolution in emerging markets. More recently, in January 2024, Amplify ETFs completed the acquisition of ETF Managers Group (ETFMG) assets, incorporating over $3.7 billion in AUM across 14 ETFs and expanding Amplify's total AUM to $9.1 billion across 31 ETFs, enhancing distribution, marketing, and product lineup synergies that indirectly bolster EMFQ's visibility and operational support. This acquisition positioned Amplify among the top 13% of ETF sponsors by AUM, following prior strategic moves like a 2022 partnership with Samsung Asset Management for Asian market exclusivity and joint product development.
