Business
Eaton Vance Short Duration Income ETF (EVSD) is an actively managed exchange-traded fund that seeks above-average total returns over a market cycle of three to five years by investing in a diversified portfolio of fixed income securities, including U.S. government securities, investment grade corporate bonds, mortgage-backed securities, asset-backed securities, high yield bonds, collateralized loan obligations, and commercial mortgage-backed securities; it targets an average effective duration of approximately three years or less while employing a multi-sector top-down/bottom-up investment approach. The fund, managed by a team comprising Brian S. Ellis, Eric Jesionowski, Stella Ma, and Brandon Matsui of Morgan Stanley Investment Management's Broad Markets Fixed Income team, maintains holdings across approximately 500 securities with significant allocations to investment grade credit (40%), asset-backed securities (19%), mortgage-backed securities (14%), and cash equivalents (10%). EVSD lists on the Nasdaq with a net expense ratio of 0.24%, monthly distributions, and total net assets exceeding $666 million as of late 2025. Originally launched as a mutual fund on March 31, 1992, EVSD converted to an ETF structure and began trading on June 17, 2024, as part of Morgan Stanley Investment Management's expansion of its active fixed income ETF platform, which grew from prior conversions like those in March 2024 to encompass 18 ETFs by late 2025 including related Eaton Vance offerings such as Ultra-Short Income ETF (EVSB), Total Return Bond ETF (EVTR), and the newly converted Mortgage Opportunities ETF (EVMO) in August 2025. Morgan Stanley Investment Management Inc., based in Boston, Massachusetts, serves as investment adviser with Foreside Fund Services, LLC as distributor and JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A. as administrator and custodian; the fund focuses on broad credit fixed income strategies targeting institutional and retail investors seeking income and total return in a short-duration format with global USD-denominated exposure and blended development market emphasis.
