Business
iShares MSCI Malaysia ETF (EWM) is an exchange-traded fund that seeks to track the investment results of an index composed of Malaysian equities. The fund provides exposure to large- and mid-capitalization companies in Malaysia; it invests at least 80% of its assets in securities included in the MSCI Malaysia Index or substantially identical holdings; and it employs a representative sampling strategy to replicate index performance while minimizing transaction costs and tracking error. Managed by BlackRock, Inc., the fund was launched in 1996 and is domiciled in the United States with primary listing on the NYSE Arca exchange. EWM targets institutional and retail investors seeking emerging market diversification in Southeast Asia; it operates globally with assets accessible through major brokerage platforms worldwide; and no significant subsidiaries exist as it functions as a unit of BlackRock's expansive iShares ETF platform. In recent developments, the fund underwent a routine annual reconstitution of the underlying MSCI Malaysia Index in May 2025 to reflect updated market capitalizations and liquidity metrics; BlackRock announced enhancements to its ETF liquidity management protocols in Q3 2025 amid heightened volatility in Asian markets; and EWM benefited from increased inflows following Malaysia's economic rebound post-2024 global slowdown, with assets under management rising approximately 12% year-over-year as of December 2025.
