Business
First Trust Dynamic Europe Equity Income Fund (NYSE: FDEU) is a non-diversified, closed-end management investment company focused on providing a high level of current income with a secondary objective of capital appreciation. The fund invests primarily in equity securities of European companies across all market capitalizations, including dividend-paying common stocks, preferred stocks, depositary receipts, and real estate investment trusts (REITs); it employs a dynamic currency hedging process using forward foreign currency contracts at the portfolio managers' discretion to manage currency exposure. Investments target income-producing securities in Western European countries predominantly, with no more than 40% of managed assets in any single country, and the fund was managed by First Trust Advisors L.P. with sub-advisory from Janus Henderson Investors US LLC. Established prior to 2016 as detailed in its prospectus, the fund was headquartered in Wheaton, Illinois, through its advisor First Trust Advisors L.P. It catered to income-seeking investors targeting European equity markets, including growth and value stocks of large-cap firms benchmarked against indices like the MSCI Europe Index. In a major strategic reorganization approved by shareholders on October 23, 2023, and completed on November 21, 2023, FDEU's assets and liabilities transferred to First Trust Active Global Quality Income ETF (NYSE Arca: AGQI), an actively managed ETF with the same management team. FDEU shareholders received AGQI shares equivalent to their net asset value, marking the fund's conversion from a leveraged closed-end structure to a non-leveraged ETF focused on global dividend-paying equities for income and capital growth. No subsequent partnerships, acquisitions, funding rounds, or product launches specific to FDEU have been reported since the reorganization.
