Business
Fidelity Select Consumer Staples Portfolio (FDFAX) is an actively managed open-end mutual fund that invests primarily in the securities of companies engaged in the consumer staples sector; normally at least 80% of assets are invested in common stocks of such companies, including those involved in the manufacture, sale, or distribution of food, beverages, tobacco, household and personal products, and retailers that primarily sell these staples. The portfolio targets equity securities of issuers benefiting from noncyclical consumer demand, with a focus on large-cap value stocks; top holdings as of April 30, 2025, include The Coca-Cola Company (14.02%), The Procter & Gamble Company (11.69%), Keurig Dr Pepper Inc. (10.64%), Walmart Inc. (8.01%), and Constellation Brands, Inc. (5.26%), comprising approximately 49.62% of the portfolio. It offers exposure to U.S. stocks (about 94% of assets), with minor allocations to non-U.S. stocks (5%), cash equivalents, and other assets; the fund is available to retail and institutional investors in the United States, with no minimum initial investment required. Launched on July 29, 1985, the fund is domiciled in the United States and managed by Fidelity Management & Research Company LLC, headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts. Current portfolio manager Ben Shuleva has overseen the fund since January 1, 2020, employing a bottom-up investment approach that emphasizes stock prices following earnings growth through active security selection. The fund maintains total net assets of approximately $1.08 billion, with a net expense ratio of 0.68% and daily pricing. In recent developments, the portfolio has adjusted holdings to capitalize on e-commerce competitiveness in consumer staples, including adding to positions in companies like Estee Lauder amid strategic shifts in the past 12 months. As of Q2 2024, the fund underwent portfolio reviews reflecting sector dynamics, with continued overweight positions in key staples amid market volatility. No major acquisitions, funding rounds, or structural reorganizations have been reported in the last 1-2 years, maintaining its core sector-focused equity strategy without significant operational changes.
