ProShares UltraPro Financial Select Sector (FINU) seeks daily investment results, before fees and expenses, that correspond to three times (3x) the daily performance of the S&P Financial Select Sector Index. The fund invests in financial instruments, including derivatives such as swaps and futures, as well as direct and indirect exposures to growth and value stocks of large-cap U.S. companies operating in the financials sector, encompassing banks, insurance providers, consumer finance firms, capital markets participants, and real estate-related entities. Launched on July 10, 2012, as part of ProShares Trust and managed by ProShare Advisors LLC, the ETF targets sophisticated investors seeking leveraged exposure to the U.S. financial industry, with operations focused on U.S. equity markets. Headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland—where parent entity ProFunds Group traces its origins to 1997—the fund operates within ProShares' broader lineup of over 150 exchange-traded funds, emphasizing leveraged, inverse, and alternative strategies for institutional, advisor, and retail clients across global markets. In March 2020, ProShare Advisors announced the liquidation and closure of FINU alongside its inverse counterpart and several other ETFs, including UltraPro Communication Services Select Sector (UCOM) and UltraPro Nasdaq Biotechnology (UBIO), citing portfolio optimization amid challenging market conditions; shareholders received cash distributions at net asset value, rendering the fund inactive thereafter. ProShares has since pursued aggressive expansion, launching innovative products such as leveraged Solana (SLON) and XRP (UXRP) futures ETFs in July 2025, single-stock 2x ETFs targeting Coinbase, Nvidia, Palantir, and Tesla in September 2025, a private equity-focused interval fund in October 2025, and a suite of patent-pending Dynamic Buffer ETFs in June 2025 to provide adaptive volatility protection on major U.S. indexes. These developments underscore ProShares' strategic shift toward cryptocurrency derivatives, high-growth equities, and semi-liquid alternatives, while maintaining its leadership in geared ETF strategies.
