Business
Fidelity Freedom Index 2025 Fund - Investor Class (FQIFX) is a target-date mutual fund that seeks high total return until its target retirement date around 2025 and thereafter high current income with secondary capital appreciation. The fund invests primarily in a combination of underlying Fidelity domestic equity funds, international equity funds, bond funds, and short-term funds, each tracking specific indices such as the Fidelity Series Total Market Index Fund, Fidelity Series Bond Index Fund, Fidelity Series Global ex U.S. Index Fund, Fidelity Series 5+ Year Inflation-Protected Bond Index Fund, and Fidelity Series International Developed Markets Bond Index Fund; its current asset allocation approximates 31% U.S. equities, 21% non-U.S. equities, 48% bonds (including U.S. investment-grade, long-term Treasury, inflation-protected, and international bonds), and minimal short-term debt. Launched on October 2, 2009, and managed by Fidelity Management & Research Company LLC (FMR) from its headquarters in Smithfield, Rhode Island, the fund follows a neutral asset allocation glide path that becomes increasingly conservative, with potential merger into the Fidelity Freedom Index Income Fund 10 to 19 years post-target date; it serves investors retiring in or near 2025, with total net assets of approximately $15 billion across share classes including Institutional Premium (FFEDX), Premier (FLIPX), and Premier II (FATZX). Portfolio managers include Andrew Dierdorf (since 2009), Brett Sumsion (since 2014), Finola McGuire Foley (since 2018), and Cait Dourney (since May 2025). In recent developments, the fund maintains a net expense ratio of 0.12% and low turnover of 15-18%, while Fidelity announced updates to the Freedom Index Funds' glide path in 2025, increasing equity exposure by 0.5-9%, reducing fixed income, and boosting inflation-sensitive assets like TIPS for investors near retirement; the transition to this revised strategic asset allocation begins in Q4 2025 and completes by Q1 2027.
