Business
Canadian Phosphate Limited Canadian Phosphate Limited (ASX:CP8), formerly known as Fertoz Limited until its name change in February 2025, is an Australian-based mineral exploration company focused on the development and supply of high-grade, low-impurity sedimentary rock phosphate for regenerative and organic fertilizers, as well as precursor materials for phosphoric acid production used in synthetic phosphate fertilizers and Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries; its core products include rock phosphate in powder, micronized, and granulated forms, blended organic fertilizers such as FertAg 0-8-0 and the recently introduced FertAg 0-7-0 Grit (containing 7% phosphorus, 22% calcium, 11% magnesium, and 12% silicon), fused calcium magnesium silica phosphate, and gypsum-sulfur blends, with exclusive sourcing from deposits in the USA and Mexico alongside its Canadian projects. Incorporated in 2010 and headquartered at Level 8, 99 St Georges Terrace, Perth WA 6000, Australia, the company operates primarily in the agricultural inputs sector across North America and Australia, holding 100% interests in the Wapiti phosphate project (approximately 78 km² with an Exploration Target of 20-28 million tonnes at 15.97% P2O5 across 40% of tenements) and the Fernie projects (approximately 108 km², including Barnes Lake and Pump Station areas) in British Columbia, Canada, where it targets expansion of mineral resource estimates through ongoing drilling and exploration programs managed by Dahrouge Geological Consulting. Geographically, Canadian Phosphate Limited supplies regenerative fertilizers to manufacturers and growers in Canada (via key customer Replenish Nutrients, whose Beiseker facility expanded four-fold to 25,000-tonne capacity in August 2025 and announced a licensing agreement with MJ Ag Solutions for third-party production using its rock phosphate), the United States (from Montana stockpiles totaling approximately 26,500 tonnes), and Australia (home garden and organic agriculture markets, with FertAg 0-8-0 certification extended to June 2027); it serves agricultural producers seeking sustainable soil amendments and supports emerging LFP battery supply chains amid Canada's 100% phosphate import reliance (80% from the USA) and recent designation of phosphate as a critical mineral in 2024. Recent major developments include the September 2025 sale of its non-core pelleting plant for A$1.0 million (US$654,000) to strengthen the balance sheet and refocus on core Canadian exploration; securing a 10,000-tonne bulk sample permit for the Barnes project in Fernie to accelerate regenerative fertilizer market adoption; advancing Multi-Year Area-Based Exploration Permits for Wapiti (delayed by British Columbia union strikes but targeting drilling) and Fernie (submission planned before year-end); achieving 51.9% gross margins on H1 2025 revenue of $1.29 million (comparable to prior year despite customer plant upgrades) with improved operating cash flows from cost reductions and new customers; issuing 27.5 million options to staff, consultants, and directors; and applying for BHP Xplor funding of up to US$500,000 for Wapiti exploration, positioning the company to capitalize on global phosphate supply disruptions from Chinese export controls and North American supply chain diversification efforts.
