Business
Invesco CurrencyShares British Pound Sterling Trust (FXB) is a grantor trust designed to track the price of the British pound sterling against the U.S. dollar, as determined by the WM/Reuters closing spot rate; it holds British pounds sterling in deposit accounts and issues shares that trade on the NYSE Arca exchange under the ticker FXB. The Trust provides investors with exposure to the British pound sterling, the official currency of the United Kingdom (England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland) and the accounts of the Bank of England since 1694, through a single asset class focused on currency; it generates income via interest on its British pound sterling holdings, net of expenses, and distributes ordinary income monthly to shareholders. Formed on June 8, 2006, with shares commencing trading on June 26, 2006, the Trust is sponsored by Invesco Specialized Products, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Invesco Ltd., and maintains its principal executive offices at 3500 Lacey Road, Suite 700, Downers Grove, Illinois 60515. The Trust operates in the currency ETF segment, targeting investors seeking to hedge foreign exchange risk, speculate on GBP/USD exchange rate movements, or gain unleveraged exposure to the British pound without direct forex trading; it rebalances quarterly and is domiciled in the United States. Shares reflect the net asset value (NAV) based on British pound sterling holdings, adjusted for expenses paid by selling pounds if necessary, with recent performance showing year-to-date NAV returns of 9.55% and one-year returns of 3.06% as of September 30, 2025. In April 2018, the Trust underwent a reorganization following Invesco's acquisition of Guggenheim Investments' ETF business, transitioning from Guggenheim sponsorship to Invesco while maintaining its core tracking objective. More recently, in 2024, the Trust announced board changes with the departure of manager John Zerr and the appointment of Melanie Ringold, reflecting ongoing governance adjustments by sponsor Invesco Specialized Products, LLC. The Trust continues to distribute monthly income, with recent payouts including $0.23967 per share on October 7, 2025, and maintains low expense ratio of 0.40%, supporting its focus on precise British pound sterling price replication amid volatile forex markets.
