Business
Gatos Silver, Inc. is a company primarily engaged in the exploration, development, and production of precious and base metals. The company's core focus is on silver, with operations also yielding zinc, lead, gold, and copper. Its principal asset is a 70% interest in the Cerro Los Gatos mine, situated within the Los Gatos District in Chihuahua State, Mexico. In a significant recent development, First Majestic Silver Corp. completed the acquisition of Gatos Silver in January 2025. This transaction, valued at approximately US$970 million, integrated Gatos Silver's high-grade Cerro Los Gatos mine into First Majestic's portfolio, enhancing its overall production and resource base. An updated mine plan for Cerro Los Gatos in September 2024 extended its operational life to the end of 2032 and projected a 36% increase in silver equivalent production. Gatos Silver, Inc., originally incorporated in 2009 as Sunshine Silver Mining & Refining Corporation, changed its name in 2020. The company maintains offices in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Its revenue model centers on extracting polymetallic ore and selling the processed concentrates to global smelters and refiners.
