Business
Nicholas Global Equity and Income ETF (GIAX) is an actively managed exchange-traded fund that seeks total return by investing primarily in a diversified portfolio of global equities and income-generating securities. The fund offers exposure to large- and mid-cap companies across developed and emerging markets; high-yield bonds and dividend-paying stocks; and alternative income strategies including covered calls and preferred securities, with a focus on sectors such as technology, financials, healthcare, and consumer goods. GIAX targets income-oriented investors, including retirees and institutions, by balancing capital appreciation with monthly distributions, while employing risk management techniques like sector diversification and currency hedging. Headquartered in New York and launched in 2023 by Nicholas Asset Management, a subsidiary of Nicholas Financial, Inc., the ETF operates globally with primary allocations to U.S., European, and Asian markets. In late 2024, GIAX expanded its mandate through a strategic partnership with a leading options specialist to enhance its covered call overlay program, boosting yield potential amid volatile markets. The fund also completed a seed capital raise of $150 million in Q1 2025 from institutional investors, enabling increased liquidity and a new ESG-screened equity sleeve; additionally, it reorganized its fixed-income allocation in mid-2025 to include more short-duration emerging market debt following regulatory approvals for broader international exposure.
