VanEck China Growth Leaders ETF (GLCN) is an exchange-traded fund that seeks to replicate the performance of the MarketGrader China All-Cap Growth Leaders Index, prior to fees and expenses. The fund normally invests at least 80% of its total assets in Chinese equity securities, including China A-shares accessed directly or through swaps linked to their performance; it targets growth and value stocks across diversified sectors such as basic materials, consumer staples, health care, and information technology, with exposure to companies of varying market capitalizations operating in the public equity markets of China. Launched on October 13, 2010, by Van Eck Associates Corporation with co-management by China Asset Management (Hong Kong) Limited, the ETF was domiciled in the United States and listed on NYSE Arca.
The fund provided investors with targeted exposure to high-growth Chinese companies selected via a market cap-weighted methodology emphasizing growth leaders, including those listed on platforms like Stock Connect and the Science and Technology Innovation Board (STAR Board); it held diversified holdings primarily in Asia Pacific (99.4% China-focused) across approximately 200 securities.
In a major strategic change, VanEck announced on September 8, 2023, the closure and liquidation of the GLCN ETF, approved by the Board of Trustees on September 7, 2023, due to evaluations of performance, liquidity, assets under management, and investor interest. Trading ceased after market close on September 20, 2023, with creation orders halted for Authorized Participants on the same date; shareholders received a special distribution (declared September 8, record September 12, ex-date September 11, pay September 13) and a final liquidating distribution of net asset value in cash on or about September 27, 2023, after which the fund went out of business. No subsequent relaunches, acquisitions, partnerships, or product expansions related to GLCN have been reported as of late 2025.
