Business
Golden Enterprises, Inc. (GLDC) is a holding company that owns Golden Flake Snack Foods, Inc., a snack food manufacturer and distributor specializing in potato chips, tortilla chips, corn chips, fried pork skins, cheese curls and puffs, onion rings, puff corn, pretzels, peanut butter crackers, cheese crackers, dried meat products, nuts, canned dips, salsas, and related items packaged under the Golden Flake, Tostados, and Maizetos brands. The company, founded in 1923 as Magic City Food Products Company in Birmingham, Alabama—its current headquarters—distributes these products through its sales organization and independent distributors to grocery chains, discount stores, convenience stores, restaurants, and other outlets primarily in the Southeastern United States, including Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana, Kentucky, South Carolina, and parts of Florida, North Carolina, Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Virginia, Indiana, and Texas. Golden Enterprises operates production facilities in Birmingham, Alabama, and historically Nashville, Tennessee, targeting consumers seeking regional snack favorites. In 2016, the company was acquired by Utz Quality Foods, Inc. and taken private after delisting from NASDAQ, with Golden Flake continuing as a wholly-owned subsidiary focused on growth in southern markets and integration into Utz's broader portfolio including Utz, Zapps, and other brands; no major recent acquisitions, funding rounds, or product launches specific to Golden Enterprises are reported since the merger, though Utz showcased Golden Flake products at the 2025 NACS Show.
