The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. (GS) operates as a leading global investment banking, securities and investment management firm, providing comprehensive financial services to corporations, financial institutions, governments and high-net-worth individuals worldwide. The company conducts its activities through three primary segments: Global Banking & Markets, which offers investment banking advisory including mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, restructurings and spin-offs; equity and debt underwriting for public offerings and private placements; relationship lending, acquisition financing, secured lending through structured credit and asset-backed facilities covering warehouse, residential and commercial mortgages, corporate, consumer, auto and student loans; financing via securities purchased under agreements to resell; and commodity financing; Asset & Wealth Management, which delivers asset management solutions, wealth management services, private equity investments, personal financial planning, retail banking, digital consumer banking, direct-to-consumer lending, deposit-taking and investing; and Platform Solutions, which provides consumer platforms including credit cards, point-of-sale financing, transaction banking, payment solutions and cash management services for corporate and institutional clients. Founded in 1869 and headquartered at 200 West Street in New York, New York, Goldman Sachs maintains extensive operations across the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia, with regional hubs in key financial centers. In recent developments, the firm agreed in October 2025 to acquire Industry Ventures, a $7 billion venture capital firm managing assets under management, for $665 million in cash and equity plus up to $300 million in performance-based payments through 2030, enhancing its $540 billion alternatives platform with technology and venture expertise via the External Investing Group; expanded its private credit business with a $15 billion commitment focused on middle-market direct lending, specialty finance and structured credit in May 2025; announced in November 2025 the $2.0 billion acquisition of Innovator Capital Management to bolster active ETFs and structured products; plans to add 500 roles in its Birmingham, UK office as part of global footprint optimization; and launched onshore Wealth Management in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in October 2025 to strengthen Middle East capabilities.
