Business
Goldman Sachs ActiveBeta Europe Equity ETF (GSEU) is an exchange-traded fund that seeks to provide investment results that closely correspond, before fees and expenses, to the performance of the Goldman Sachs ActiveBeta Europe Equity Index. The fund invests at least 80% of its assets, exclusive of collateral held from securities lending, in securities included in the index, depositary receipts representing such securities, and underlying stocks in respect of depositary receipts; the index delivers exposure to equity securities of developed market issuers in Europe, constructed using a rules-based methodology that combines four equally weighted factor subindexes—value (based on book value-to-price, sales-to-price, and free cash flow-to-price), momentum (share price trend), quality (profitability), and low volatility (reduced price fluctuation)—derived from the MSCI Europe Index, with quarterly rebalancing and turnover minimization. Holdings span large- and mid-cap stocks across diversified sectors including health care, consumer staples, financials, industrials, information technology, consumer discretionary, and energy; top exposures as of recent periods include companies such as Novo Nordisk A/S, Nestle SA, ASML Holding NV, Roche Holding AG, and Novartis AG, with geographic focus on Eurozone (approximately 53%), Europe ex-Euro (23%), United Kingdom (20%), and minor U.S. allocations. Launched on March 2, 2016, and domiciled in the United States, GSEU trades on NYSE Arca under the Goldman Sachs ETF Trust, with investment advisory services provided by Goldman Sachs Asset Management, L.P., headquartered at 200 West Street, New York, New York. The fund targets investors seeking long-term growth through systematic factor-based exposure to European equities, subject to equity market risk, foreign currency fluctuations, and potential underperformance from the multi-factor weighting scheme; it maintains a net expense ratio of 0.25%, quarterly dividend distributions yielding around 2.4%, and assets under management near $112 million as of late 2025. In recent developments, GSEU has sustained steady operations with no major acquisitions, funding rounds, or strategic shifts reported in the last 1-2 years; performance for the 12 months ended August 31, 2023, delivered a 24.40% NAV return, outperforming the MSCI Europe Index by 1.89% driven by value and quality factors, alongside quarterly index rebalances maintaining factor diversification; Morningstar upgraded its Process Pillar rating, elevating the Medalist Rating to Silver from Neutral in 2024, reflecting enhanced methodology confidence.
