Business
WisdomTree Middle East Dividend Fund (GULF) is an exchange-traded fund that seeks to track the price and yield performance, before fees and expenses, of the WisdomTree Middle East Dividend Index. The fund normally invests at least 95% of its total assets in the component securities of the index or investments with substantially identical economic characteristics; these include dividend-paying stocks of companies domiciled in Middle East countries, such as those in Qatar, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates, across sectors including financials, communication services, and materials. It employs a representative sampling technique to mirror the fundamentally weighted index focused on large-cap growth and value stocks that pay regular cash dividends. Launched on July 16, 2008, and domiciled in the United States with headquarters aligned to WisdomTree Investments, Inc. in New York, the fund targets investors seeking exposure to high-dividend equities in the Middle East region, classified within broad equity and frontier markets segments. The expense ratio stands at 0.88%, with assets under management recently around $13-20 million and a dividend yield of approximately 3.9-4.0%. In a significant operational change, WisdomTree announced the closure and liquidation of the GULF fund in May 2020, with the final trading day on May 27, 2020, and automatic redemption of remaining shares for cash based on net asset value around June 9, 2020. Despite this delisting, certain financial platforms continue to display residual quote data, such as a last price near $16.34 and market capitalization metrics, though the fund is no longer actively trading or operational. No recent partnerships, funding rounds, acquisitions, or relaunches have been reported for GULF within the last 1-2 years.
