Business
Cambria Global Value ETF (GVAL) is an actively managed exchange-traded fund that seeks capital appreciation by investing in global equities from the cheapest countries worldwide, as determined by cyclically adjusted price-to-earnings ratios (CAPE), and the most undervalued stocks within those markets based on traditional value metrics including trailing P/E, P/B, P/S, P/FCF, and EV/EBITDA; it selects the top 25% cheapest countries from a universe of 45 developed and emerging markets, then chooses approximately 10 stocks from the top 30 largest by market capitalization in each, resulting in around 100-130 holdings equally weighted across countries. The fund targets large-cap value stocks across diversified sectors such as financials, utilities, materials, real estate, industrials, and energy, with significant exposure to emerging markets including Colombia, Czech Republic, Hong Kong, Singapore, Poland, China, Britain, Austria, Spain, Chile, and Brazil; top holdings as of mid-2025 include MONETA Money Bank, Komercní banka, CEZ, First American Treasury Obligations Fund, and Grupo de Inversiones Suramericana. Launched on March 12, 2014, and headquartered with its investment adviser Cambria Investment Management, LP in Manhattan Beach, California, GVAL operates globally with a total expense ratio of 0.64%, quarterly dividend distributions, and assets under management exceeding $350 million as of late 2025. In July 2020, the fund underwent a major strategic shift by changing its investment objective, strategy, and management approach from passive tracking of the Cambria Global Value Index to active management, enhancing its flexibility in selecting undervalued global equities. More recently, in 2025, Cambria Investment Management expanded its ETF lineup through partnerships with ETF Architect, launching innovative 351 ETF Exchange products including the Cambria Global Equal Weight ETF (GEW) in September, the Cambria Endowment Style ETF (ENDW), and the Cambria Tax Aware ETF (TAX), reflecting a strategic focus on tax-efficient, quantitative solutions amid growing assets under management surpassing $3 billion across 19 ETFs; additionally, Solowin Holdings acquired a 24.9% stake in related entity Cambria Capital, LLC in July 2024.
